Bio
Angelo Sylvester is a teacher of choral ensembles, voice, and brass. Ensembles under Angelo's direction are praised for their energetic performances, artistic interpretation, and comprehensive repertoire selections. This often results in ensembles earning awards on the District, State, Regional, and National stages including Superior or Outstanding ratings from the Ohio Music Education Association as well as advancing in a variety of contests around the country.
Angelo follows a musician-first leadership model with a guiding mantra of "emotions generate learning." This allows him to work with musicians of all levels and meet them where they are, ensuring to help them prepare for their unique musical goals. Students of Angelo have earned Superior ratings at OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest, placement in District Honor Ensembles, and admittance to Youth Wind Ensembles and Choirs. Students also regularly earn acceptance into rigorous collegiate programs for music education, performance, and audio production. He is a member of the Faculty of St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio where he is Director of Choirs and teaches Audio Production. Previous positions include Associate Director for the Cincinnati Boychoir as well as Director of Bands and Men's Choirs at La Salle High School in Cincinnati, OH. These positions have allowed Angelo focus on gender dynamics in music education and explore concepts of masculinity in the arts - a topic on which his passion has led to speaking engagements such as conference presentations and community discussion panels. In addition to teaching ensembles and private students around the city, he is an active performer as a liturgical musician, freelance vocalist, and is a member of the Cincinnati Wind Band. Raised in Louisville, Ohio, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Music Education and Tuba Performance from Ohio University, and Masters in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky. When he’s not on the stage or in the classroom, he enjoys arranging music, maintaining his fitness, taking good naps and having great coffee. He can be reached at [email protected] |
